Touchcast for Teams as Events Production Tool or Making Use of the Broadcast to RTMP Feature

Did you know that you could use Touchcast for Teams as a tool to produce and direct live events?

To prepare, start creating a meeting as you would for a Teams call:

  1. Go to Calendar

  2. Click “New Meeting“

  3. Add yourself as Required attendee and hit Save.

  4. Find the new meeting and click Edit.

  5. Add the Touchcast app.

  6. Find the Settings button on the top right.

  7. Select Broadcast to RTMP and fill out this field with the RTMP URL (endpoint)

  8. Select the venue as normal and finish the setup.

  9. Join the Teams call.

  10. Launch the Touchcast app.

  11. You are LIVE!

IMPORTANT: once you start the call and launch the Touchcast app, the system will attempt to start streaming to the indicated RTMP endpont. Make sure that the endpoint is active and is ready to accept streaming.

 

If you are using Showtime as your events platform, in order to retrieve the RTMP URL:

  1. Create a track.

  2. Add sessions to this track.

  3. Create a pipeline.

  4. Assign track to the pipeline.

  5. Create a test session to test streaming.

  6. Copy the pipeline RTMP :

 

Other things to note:

  • “Broadcast to RTMP” feature needs to be enabled for the organization by Touchcast;

  • requires an RTMP endpoint;

  • single call (only Speaker) vs. dual (Speaker and Attendee links);

  • cannot use the engagement features (they are only meant for the meetings with dual calls).
